On a 7-2 vote, the U.S. Supreme Court stayed the recent 4th Circuit Court of Appeals order on the same-day registration and out-of precinct voting in North Carolina’s new voting law.

The House on Monday passed a resolution to approve the location for a memorial in Washington, D.C. to commemorate the slaves and free blacks who fought in the American Revolution.

The resolution, approved by voice vote, would authorize a memorial to be built in memory of the more than 5,000 African Americans who fought in the American Revolution.

A sharply divided House has approved a Republican plan to file an election-season federal lawsuit against President Barack Obama.
 
The suit will contend that Obama has exceeded his constitutional powers in the way he has enforced the 2010 health care law. The vote was 225 to 201.
