Butterfield Votes to Pass the INVEST in America Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman G. K. Butterfield (NC-01) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 3684, the INVEST in America Act:

“The House took bold action today on behalf of the communities in eastern North Carolina and across America that have been neglected for far too long.  Today’s vote puts needed funding for infrastructure projects, including nearly $20 million for five projects in my district, a step closer towards realization,” said Butterfield.  “This momentous bill delivers on a promise we made to the American people -- it is time to build back better to help revitalize and strengthen our local economies and improve the lives of North Carolinians and Americans alike.”

Background

The INVEST in America Act reauthorizes the surface transportation programs that are set to expire on September 30, 2021 and includes funding for Member Designated Projects across the country.  The bill provides more than $759 billion to modernize our nation’s roads, bridges, rail, and transit, creating good jobs and driving economic opportunity for American workers.  The INVEST in America Act also contains crucial provisions for our water infrastructure, including safe drinking water measures and wastewater infrastructure needs.
