Butterfield Statement on Supreme Court Ruling on DACA
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against the Trump administration’s attempt to shut down the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which has given nearly 700,000 young people who were brought to the United States as children, known as "Dreamers," protection from deportation and the ability to remain in the United States.
“Dreamers protected by the DACA program are taxpayers, business owners, homeowners, recipients of advanced degrees, and parents to U.S. citizens. They represent thousands of healthcare professionals working on the frontline amid the coronavirus pandemic and they bravely serve in our military. Dreamers are an integral part of America, and I applaud the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision today.
“While this is a day to celebrate, there is still much work to be done. The American people have called for bold legislation and a permanent solution for Dreamers. We must pass comprehensive immigration reform now!”
