Butterfield Serves as Commencement Speaker at Saint Augustine University
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman G. K. Butterfield (NC-01) statement on serving as commencement speaker May 11, 2019 for Saint Augustine University’s (SAU) graduating class of 2019 in Raleigh, North Carolina.
“I was honored to accept the invitation to be the commencement speaker for St. Augustine University’s graduating class of 2019. SAU has a rich history of producing some of the best and brightest, and the class of 2019 continues that proud legacy. I was moved to encourage the graduating class to remember the importance of being faithful—faithful to their faith, family, humanity, their university and ultimately faithful to themselves. While we can attribute much of our future success to the foundation of family, faith and formal education, it imperative that continuous development of one’s character is also prioritized. The class was charged to be trustworthy, reliable, respectful, responsible; and in all things to reflect integrity and good character. It was a privilege to speak at this year’s commencement service and I look forward to great things to come from those future change makers; St. Augustine University’s class of 2019.”
