Butterfield Secures Critical Funding for North Carolina’s First Congressional District
Washington, DC – Today, Congressman G. K. Butterfield (NC-01) voted to pass H.R. 7617, a legislative package with critical appropriations totaling $1.3 trillion in discretionary funding. The bill consists of six FY 2021 appropriations bills: Defense, Commerce-Justice-Science, Energy and Water Development, Financial Service and General Government, Labor-Health and Human Services-Education, and Transportation-Housing and Urban Development.
Congressman Butterfield led several efforts for the inclusion of funding in these appropriations bills that will help serve the needs of North Carolina’s First Congressional District.
“I am pleased that the House has passed critical appropriations that will help support NC-01 and the people of this nation,” said Butterfield. “I was glad to lead the effort in securing a $2 million increase in funding for the Minority Fellowship Program to bring its funding to $15.7 million, $120 million for the National Health Service Corps, and $8.55 billion for the National Science Foundation. I was also proud to lead a bipartisan effort with my fellow co-chairs of the Childhood Cancer Caucus that was successful in securing $30 million in funding for the STAR Act. While we still have work to do to support these critical programs, I am encouraged by the progress that we made today in passing this appropriations package.”
