Butterfield Announces over $3.9 Million in Grants for Public Housing
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman G. K. Butterfield (NC-01) released the following statement on $3,907,376 in grants from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for public housing communities in the First Congressional District of North Carolina in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
“The CARES Act was a bi-partisan effort in Congress to appropriate significant funding to put America’s families first. One of the most important votes of my congressional career was to vote for this important legislation” said Congressman Butterfield. “It is critically important that we provide economic and health care assistance to every American affected by this worldwide Pandemic. Democrats in Congress will continue to seek bi-partisan support for our next legislation that will continue to support millions of Americans who are directly affected by this Pandemic.”
“Many North Carolinians are facing devastating consequences amid the COVD-19 pandemic, especially our most vulnerable neighbors and communities of color. These HUD grant funds were included in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act and will help public housing authorities in the First Congressional District provide management, maintenance, and resident services to combat the coronavirus” said Butterfield. “Our public housing communities were already in desperate need of robust federal support before the coronavirus pandemic struck, and now, amidst the coronavirus crisis, federal funds are even more necessary. I was proud to support the inclusion of these funds in the CARES Act and I am happy to see them make their way to HUD for public housing communities in my district.”
