Butterfield Announces $400,000 COVID-19 Recovery Assistance Funding Through CARES Act
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman G. K. Butterfield (NC-01) released the following statement on the awarding of $400,000 in funding from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) to the Upper Coastal Plain Council of Governments in Wilson, North Carolina. These funds were made available by the CARES Act and will be used to help local economies recover from the coronavirus pandemic.
“Many North Carolinians are facing dire economic consequences as a result of this pandemic and are in need of assistance and support. I am glad to see that through the passage of the CARES Act, this EDA funding will go directly to the Upper Coastal Plain Council of Governments to update economic development plans and fortify programs to assist communities in responding to the coronavirus pandemic.”
The CARES Act, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives on March 26, 2020 and was signed into law on March 27, 2020, provides the EDA with $1.5 billion for economic development assistance programs to help communities prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus.
